22 October, 2009

The Centre for Transnational Crime Prevention (CTCP) at UOW’s Innovation Campus recently hosted a delegation of Chinese Ministry of Public Security representatives during September. The group were made up of 15 high-ranking Chinese Ministry of Public Security representatives from 12 different provinces in China, representing various departments within the Ministry. The purpose of this educational visit was to undertake an Australian Federal Police/Australian Leadership Award Fellowship Program in leadership and policing. The program has been developed in conjunction with the AFP.

Senior Lecturer at CTCP Mark Loves said the course would benefit China’s law enforcement and transnational crime leadership skills.

"We believe the course will significantly benefit law enforcement and security bilateral relationships with China and will result in developing leadership skills within senior levels of the Ministry of Public Security in the areas of transnational crime and security management,” Mr Loves said.

Delegates attended presentations on topics including international criminal law, the Australian criminal justice system, corporate crime, and border security.

Along with presentations from CTCP and UOW staff and students, the program included presentations by the AFP, NSW Police, Department of Immigration and Citizenship and Australian Customs Service. The group also visit Wollongong City Council, Goulburn Police Academy, NSW Police Complex Wollongong and the NSW Police Dog Squad and Water Police.
